Ruby and Diamond Crescent Brooch, c.1890

Particularly prevalent towards the end of the 19th century, but popular throughout history, crescent brooches have a celestial allure that is hard to ignore. Lot 213 and Lot 251, both dating from around 1890, showcase two very different crescent designs. Lot 251 is set with both cushion-shaped diamonds and rubies, the two rows of gemstones creating a pleasing double crescent effect, whilst Lot 213 is elegantly elongated, set with cushion-shaped diamonds.

Founded in Beirut in 1860, Chatila have built their reputation for fine jewellery on their focus on colourful gemstones, and carefully considered craftsmanship.

Lot 263 showcases both these elements to wonderful effect. The woven design is highly articulated to feel fabric-like in it’s suppleness, and set with an effective combination of aquamarine, pink sapphire and brilliant-cut diamonds.

Lot 161

Lot 161. Aquamarine and Diamond Pendant, Ring and Earring Suite, Mid 20th Century. Estimate: £7,000 - £10,000

One of the birthstones of March, Aquamarine, is a blue to blue-green variety of Beryl. Each aquamarine in Lot 161 showcases the sought after even-blue hue seen in finer examples of the stone. With it’s scrolling vari-cut diamond foliate motifs, this mid 20th century suite demonstrates the arresting affect of aquamarine.

Lot 268

Bulgari: Amethyst 'Parentesi Cocktail' Pendant/Necklace

Lot 268. Bulgari: Amethyst 'Parentesi Cocktail' Pendant/Necklace. Estimate: £1,200 - £1,500

Lot 268. Bulgari: Amethyst 'Parentesi Cocktail' Pendant/Necklace. Estimate: £1,200 - £1,500

The Parentesi collection is one of Bulgari’s most iconic collections, translating as ‘brackets’ or ‘parentheses’. Gianni Bulgari was doodling during a design meeting, drawing square, round and double brackets. He realised the potential of a simple pattern made of interlocking symbols, and in 1982 the first Bulgari Parentesi jewellery was introduced. This necklace from the Parentesi Cocktail collection features a checkerboard-cut amethyst, suspended from a brilliant-cut diamond surmount, on a cable link chain.
