The Philanthropic Legacy of Richard C. Blum

Richard C. Blum’s fascination with the Himalayas was ignited during his youth by the historic ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953. This initial spark grew into a lifelong passion for the region and its inhabitants. In 1968, he embarked on his inaugural journey to the Himalayas, marking the beginning of a series of trips that would see him continually drawn back, captivated by both the awe-inspiring landscapes and the resilient communities nestled within them.

Inspired by the teachings of the Dalai Lama and the pioneering spirit of Sir Edmund Hillary, Blum founded the American Himalayan Foundation (AHF) in 1981. AHF was established with the noble mission of providing aid to the Sherpa people and other marginalized communities across the Himalayan region. Through Blum's unwavering dedication and leadership, AHF thrived for four decades, spearheading initiatives in healthcare, education, environmental conservation, and the preservation of cultural heritage.

Blum's legacy is one of compassion, generosity, and commitment to uplifting the lives of others. From his early fascination with the Himalayas to his pivotal role as a prominent philanthropist and advocate for social progress, he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and empower future generations.
